WestJet to begin flying into the Canadian Rockies International Airport

The region is ecstatic following the announcement of WestJet’s new WestLink service

Starting March 7, 2018, WestJet will be offering direct flights from the Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) to Calgary, Alberta. The news broke November 24, 2017, in conjunction with WestJet’s announcement of WestLink, a regional aircraft service that will use Pacific Coastal Airlines’ fleet of 34-seat Saab 340B aircraft.

The announcement represents a milestone for YXC and Tristen Chernove, who is CEO of Elevate Airports and the general manager of the Canadian Rockies International Airport, couldn’t be happier.

“This partnership between two great companies, WestJet and Pacific Coastal Airlines, is a best-case scenario,” said Chernove, “allowing for the right-sized aircraft and providing high frequency and timely connections to Calgary and WestJet’s international network.”

The new WestLink service will run three times a day, except on Saturdays where there will be two flights. Introductory rates for the service are $91.83 from Cranbrook to Calgary and $111.78 from Calgary back to Cranbrook. In addition, the service will also offer connecting flights from YXC to Toronto for $142 and vice versa for $156.

The Cranbrook-Kimberley region is one of only five communities chosen for this service and according to Chernove, a key factor in WestJet’s decision was ridership. YXC connects more than 130,000 annual passengers.

Cranbrook Mayor Lee Pratt is pleased to see Pacific Coastal involved with WestJet on the project.

“Pacific Coastal has been a great supporter of the Canadian Rockies International Airport and this solidifies their other routes with us . . . ” said Pratt. “We will put a concentrated effort into encouraging the public to take advantage of this added service.”

The Cranbrook-Kimberley Development Zone is ecstatic and this announcement is indicative of positive economic trends in our region.
