Cranbrook’s Fisher Peak Brewing Co. received a gold award for its Scottish Ale beer at the 16th annual Canadian Brewing Awards & Conferencewhich took place May 24 to 26, 2018, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Awards are Canada’s national competition for judging the quality of Canadian manufactured beers. Majority-owned breweries of all sizes are invited to compete. There are 55 categories and this year, more than 2,000 entries that were judged by 46 Beer Judge Certified Program experts.

The verdict?

“World class and exceptional is how the Scottish Ale beer from our very own Fisher Peak Brewing Co. was rated by world class judges at the Canadian Brewing awards this weekend,” wrote Fisher Peak Brewing Co. on social media.

Located in the heart of Cranbrook’s downtown core, Fisher Peak Brewing Co. is housed in the The Heid Out Restaurant & Brewhouse. Before its transformation into a brew pub in 2013, this popular restaurant operated as an old-time schnitzelhaus.

When owner-operator Heidi Romich announced plans to retire, locals were worried. She and her family decided to convert it into a brew pub. The establishment has been hugely successful ever since and Romich is now handing the reins down to her daughter and son-in-law.
