Downtown Cranbrook playing host to first-ever Winter Blitzville
Excitement is mounting as the date of Cranbrook’s new Winter Blitzville draws near. Set for February 16, 2019, this event features X Games snowmobile athletes, professional snowboarders, live music and a fireworks display as a grand finale. And it’s all taking place in Cranbrook’s downtown core, which, according to the City of Cranbrook’s Events and Marketing Manager Paul Heywood, is a bit of an anomaly.
“We got bands, a snowboard rail jam and X Games snow riders going off ramps with fireworks going left, right and centre,” said Heywood, in an interview with Kootenay Business magazine. “It’s never been done before in any other city in B.C.—fireworks attached to the ramps, igniting in sync with the riders going off of the jumps.”
The Choice, a skate and snowboard shop in downtown Cranbrook, is among the local businesses showing their generous support of the event. Food trucks will be on site and several restaurants are setting up patios surrounding the event to provide people with food, beverages and comfort for the children.
The event is open to all ages.
“There’ll be giveaways and incentives for the crowd,” said Heywood. “It’s all about getting the crowd involved with the music, entertainment, stunts and fireworks. It’ll be a fun, community event that showcases the city.”
