Cranbrook-Kimberley Development Zone home to Canada’s second fastest growing airport
The Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) has reported steady growth for the last several years—but 2018 was the most exciting. Passenger traffic increased by 29% last year over 2017, with a total of 177,000 annual passengers. This makes YXC Canada’s second fastest growing airport.
A major milestone was reached in June 2018 when the new WestJet Link service started, offering non-stop daily flights to Calgary, Alberta. Each day, YXC has over 20 arrivals and departures from three airline carriers. There are 85 employees working on airport property for 14 different companies.
Located 15 minutes from Kimberley and 10 from Cranbrook, the airport connects the Cranbrook-Kimberley Development Zone to four billion travellers worldwide. That number is expected to double in coming years and Tristen Chernove, airport general manager, is confident ridership will continue to grow at YXC.
He credits the airport’s success to community support from both Cranbrook and Kimberley.
